Prior to 2004, the last time any serious look was taken at electoral boundaries was in 1992, when the number of constituencies was increased from 140 to 200.

In 2003, the Electoral Commission undertook a demarcation exercise, which brought the number of constituencies up from 200 to 230.

1n the 2004 Presidential elections John Agyekum Kufour got 14, whilst Atta Mills got the remaining 16 of the Newly created constituencies. (more…)


A significant increase in salaries for Ghana’s president, ministers and other top officials has been criticised by anti-corruption campaigners.

Parliament agreed to the pay rise earlier this week in a session that was not televised.

Last month President John Dramani Mahama authorised an increase in MPs’ pay.

The BBC’s Sammy Darko in Ghana says both rises will be backdated to 2009 – which has caused a public outcry.
